Just got the Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green Power Hard Drive. But the writing speed only reaches 3MB/s. But full speed when using explorer. Any suggestions? I'm using V. 9.1.3.0.3449.x64 on Win7
I'm using Win7 Build 7000.
You could try adjusting the copy buffer size in Opus. I'd also recommend seeing if there are newer drivers for your motherboard or IDE/SATA controller.
Hasn't Win 7 build 7000 expired now?
Yup. Had to turn back the time. Haha. But maybe its time for an update. I'll try the copy buffer size first. Thanks
I see it's at 64kB. How do you come up to this value or could there be some optimum value?
The optimum value depends on your hardware/drivers. There isn't a single optimum value, you just have to experiment.
(Or avoid hardware/drivers that don't buffer writes properly, but that's easier said than done.
)
I just tested 512k through 2k and it seems the best average speed is achieved by setting it down to 4k. (By copying different files to avoid buffering). Unbeliveable.
Little update! When copying over the network, 4k proved to be terrible - halving the copying speed. So, under the normal NW environment it seems that 64k is just optimal value. :]
No problem with Win 7 Build 7100. Solved!
