A Noobie asks:

Hi,

Just Downloaded DOpus and started my 60 day trial.

The program appears to be excellent, if a bit pricey...

I'd like to know if the following type of operations areis possible:

A.

  1. use D.O. to create a file collection (say, all files larger than 10 MB on a drive

  2. use that to search for duplicates on other drives, but only of '
those files already in the collection

B.

  1. Compare two directories and
i)send all files they have in common to one directory and
ii) those that are in only one but not the other to another directory

These are just examples of the kind of functions I'd like to Automate within D.O. I don't really need to know exactly how to do it right now, but would like to know if this sort of file manipulation is possible to do and automate within Directory Opus. A Pointer to the area of the help/documentation where I might find out more abot this would also be helpful.

Thanks, in advance,for your help

For A) you can make an appropriate search filter in "advanced" mode (there is a tab for that) , which allows you to set a minimum size of 10 MB ("size < 10MB"). If you save this filter (on the bottom right in the "doubles" search pane), you can later refer to it when using the doubles search. You can also select the locations in the doubles search pane("search in"). If you want to search all locations, select "all drives".

You can set the search results to be gathered in a collection, just save the results list by going one level up & changing the name of the "search results" folder. Solutions for the other parts are also possible with Opus, but it´s better if you make separate posts for each topic.

Okay I'll "make separate posts for each topic"

Thanks,
