Abort button for non-existent network path freezes DOpus

I’d appreciate any insight into this problem that I've not been able to find mentioned in the forum. Here’s the scenario:

  1. Assume computers A and B are linked on a wifi network. DOpus running on A is open at a folder that resides on remote computer B. I close DOpus and shut down machine B.
  2. Later I reopen DOpus on A while B is still off-line.
  3. As DOpus tries to open a non-existent remote address a button labelled ‘Abort’ appears with a rotating circle indicating that we’re waiting for something.
  4. I click on ‘Abort’ but DOpus freezes.
  5. After a delay of up to 70 seconds DOpus wakes up again and behaves normally.

I’ve tried various tests and found as follows:

  1. It’s the same under fully-patched Windows XP Pro (two different laptops tested) and fully-patched Vista Business SP1 (one laptop tested).
  2. I'm using DOpus version 9.1.1.8.3357.x86 but 9.1.0.6.3044.x86 and 9.1.1.7.3307.x86 do the same.
  3. To test, I open DOpus to a single lister showing My Docs and then type the name of a remote computer, such as \T8100, into Path and press Enter. (\T8100 is an old laptop that wakes up once a day to accept a backup). DOpus freezes for around 60s. If I enter a non-existent name such as \T5, the freeze lasts for only about 5 seconds. The same happens with a real machine \T780 that was last on-line several weeks ago. So it looks as if the length of the freeze is related to how long the remote address has been off-line.
  4. Sometimes the Abort button works immediately. Sometimes the delay is about 30 seconds.
  5. If instead of clicking on the Abort button, a small window eventually appears after say 60 seconds offering ‘Retry, Parent, Abort’. If I click Abort in this window, DOpus freezes for a further period, but eventually starts working again.
  6. When I do the same tests with Windows Explorer I get similar delays (ie longer for recent addresses and shorter for less recent or non-existent ones) but there’s no equivalent to the Abort button, and Explorer doesn’t freeze. I can continue using Explorer but after the delay a window appears saying ‘Windows cannot find ‘\t780’’ etc..

It looks to me as if the actual delays are determined by Windows itself, but I don’t think that DOpus should freeze when I click the Abort button. I’ve been using DOpus for 14 months and I think it’s only in recent months that the Abort button stopped working. Maybe I've messed up a setting but if so I've not been able to spot what it is.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, abort-button of DO is disponsible as it doesn't respond when accessing non-existing network-folders. You'll have to wait after error message popups and press cancel.

That's one thing that is really annoying.
