Could you please add a Drop-down history context menu to the quick search bar in the the top menu toolbar: similar to the one found in the Find bar. Also there should be an advanced preference to set the amount of search queries to remember. An option to replace the DOpus quick search with the Windows search would also work.
This is the single most annoying item that prevents me from using DOpus as a windows file manager replacement. I have to continue using Windows file manager as the default: until the lack of a quick search drop-down history context menu is resolved.
I think one issue is that it searches whenever you stop typing for a moment, so the history would either have a lot of noise or only have things added when you explicitly pushed return, and may not contain everything as a result. Unless we filtered it in some way; I'm not sure what Explorer does here.
Tools > Find Files is Opus's own search functionality, and that will remember your search patterns for you.
In Explorer: the matches from partially typed names are listed in a separate non-persistent drop-down context menu, not the main view or Lister window. You can choose and open the file from the partial name non-persistent lookup context menu; but it will not be saved in the history drop-down context menu. The search phrase is only written to the history drop-down context menu after selecting the find or search button. This is the same behavior of most website search engines so there must be a common toolbox code available for most platforms.
Would a similar approach work for DOpus?
Personally I am OK with just saving the history of whatever search term is in the search field at the time of selecting the search function; just like the current Find menu field behavior. If the search button is not chosen; nothing is written to the history drop-down context menu. Basically the current DOpus Lister behavior acts as the non-persistent context drop-down menu in Windows.
