When i zip up a folder (using Add to zip) full of files i usually get an error saying:
An error occurred copying 'xxx' Access is denied (5)
Does it only happen for folders in a certain place, or containing certain types of files? Or maybe only if the files have recently been viewed/accessed?
Also, if you have an anti-virus scanner, try disabling it to see if that helps. Maybe the a/v program is locking the partially-created archive in a way that stops Opus finishing it. If it is, which a/v scanner is it, and is it up-to-date?
I don't remember anyone else reporting the same problem, FWIW.
(FWIW, we've had a bunch of different problems with Kaspersky come up over the last couple of years, although not this particular AFAIK one so it may be unrelated. Worth checking, though.)
Not sure why this matters:
Or maybe only if the files have recently been viewed/accessed?
Something that accessed the files may be holding locks on them and preventing Opus from opening them. (This could include things which run inside of Opus, e.g. if it's video files then third party video codecs installed on your machine that Opus asked to inspect the files to get details about them.)
I've had this happen on multiple PCs. win XP, win 7 and win 7 64bit, and had it since i started using DirOpus - so for good few versions.
I've just tried disabling AV, I'm at home so have AVG - and that didn't help.
I got your point about lock files, sorry for trying to make out you asked a dumb question - that could well have been it but i don't think it is.
Sometimes it will work fine, then if i try again on the same files it errors.
The archive seems fine and uncompresses fine - but the errors worry me.
When it does error - it seems to trip on similar files - but not always the same. ie out of every 5 times i try and DirOpus errors, about 2 times it will be the same file.
Using Windows built-in send to -> compressed (zipped) folder routine seems to work fine every time, and actually work about 10 times as fast (never realised DirOpus was so slow).
So i think i will disable DirOpus' context zip items and use windows to do my zip'ing
The slowness is probably another symptom of the same underlying problem, but what the cause is I'm not sure.
Oh, if you're using the "Add to Zip..." menu item instead of the "Add to filename.zip" one, there is a known problem with that which we only recently got to the bottom of (see this thread). Using the other menu item avoids the problem for now.
