Hi, new user here. I tried many and decided to buy Directory Opus.
I have many questions so I'll organise them into their own posts.
I notice that animation is not always that smooth. Do you have plans to use a new engine to make all animations smooth?
Example: Smooth scrolling needs an update to be actually smooth. It should function like browsers where they offer smooth animation.
I also notice that right clicking a folder or something else isn't as instant as it should be.
I'm running an i9 13980HX with 32GB of RAM, RTX 4080, so it's not my laptop.
Some other things also sometimes take a bit of time. I know it's much heavier than Windows explorer due to how many features it has, but I feel some shouldn't take that long.
Another performance issue: Something is really wrong with the image viewer. Zooming in and out freezes it, causes multiple images to ghost and remain on the screen and then when it unfreezes it returns to normal. It takes a while to do anything in that viewer.
Scrolling, right clicking folders and also zooming is very smooth on my machine, even though i only have integrated graphics. Did you try to update your graphics driver?
I'll clarify. It scrolls fast but animation is not that smooth, meaning it's not using one of those new very smooth engines. There are old style animations that are choppy (low FPS) and new ones that everyone's using in modern software (high FPS).
I have smooth scrolling set up and when I scroll through thumbnails and such, it is not as smooth as say, scrolling down a page full of images in Microsoft Edge.
Right clicking folders, nevermind, it is fast. I guess the first few times I was using it, it did take some time sometimes to show the folder, or maybe for certain folders/files. I tested now, it's fast. Not sure what happened as I had written that note almost 2 months ago.
I doubt it. Everything else is fine, including high end software like DaVinci Resolve, Photoshop, Luminar Neo, Photo AI.
I use FastStone Image Viewer to view my pictures, I can zoom in and out, no issues there, but when I use the built-in image viewer, something is wrong with it. I zoom in and out, and after its initial fast speed, it duplicates the images and gets stuck and then it works.
Anyways, the built-in image viewer needs updates to a new engine from what I see.
Smooth scrolling (if turned on) is applied in only for certain situations, to avoid laggy scrolling you have to wait for, which is really annoying and makes people turn off smooth scrolling entirely.
When it happens it's very smooth for me.
Doing a short scroll with the mouse wheel in thumbnails mode is an example where you'd usually get smooth scrolling.
(This thread is also about too many subjects to keep track of. Please Ask one question per thread, and also link your account if you want to request so many changes and discuss so many things.)
I would like to know if it's possible to make the animation system smoother. I love smooth scrolling because you can tell where you're heading/scrolling. The motion helps. I only wanted to know if it's possible to make it smoother as mentioned a few times above.
My monitor runs at 240hz, so I like seeing everything very smooth. Maybe that could help you with its improvement. It's not necessarily bad how it is now, and I really appreciate having it as I don't like non-smooth scrolling, but having it smoother would be great, especially if it's easy to implement.
I'll create another post about the image viewer performance.
