Audio Files Playing Problems

Directory Opus 12 - version 12.33 x64 - Build 8659,2023-09-16

Hi there,

First, I noticed that double-clicking on .wav audio files, opens the Directory Opus Player instead of the associated software, which in my case is VLC Player.
.flac and .mp3 works fine so far, that it, they open VLC when I double-click on them.

Second, I also noticed that of those files that will only open in the DO Player (seems to be only the .wav files), some will not play at all, that is: the DO Player opens, you can see the info, but everything is grayed-out. I just noticed, right before posting this, that it seems this behavior happens if the file name is 54 characters long... 53 characters or less, will open and play.

So, first, I would like to know why my .wav files are opening the DO Player instead of the associated software (and of course, I'm aware that I could right click and choose open with VLC, but that's not what I wish), and second, lets suppose that for whatever reason, I would have to live with this, and that I would have to settle with playing them with the DO Player (yet, not cool), is there something I can do to make those long named file play, without having to rename them to a shorter file name?

Thanx in advance,

Stephane

It is probably because Preferences / File Operations / Double-click on Files / Use internal sound player for WAV files is checked.

For the files that don't play in the built-in wav player, Opus 13 has a new one which will play more types (and supports codecs etc. to let it play almost anything).

Thanx @lxp , it worked like a charm :+1:

Thanx @Leo but all files can eventually play in my DO 12. The ones that doesn't, don't play because their name is too long. When I rename the files with less than 54 characters, they play well. And now that I changed the Pref to not force the .wav to play with DO, they play in VLC now, even if they have a long name. So I actually solved my 2 problems with this one solution  Of course, maybe there are file types that I haven't tried yet that won't play in my v12, but so far so good. So if that ever happen, I will have the possible solution of getting my hands on v13

The name length limit is a problem with the old Windows API Opus 12 used to play wav files.

Opus 13 uses a newer API which doesn’t have that limit.
