Automatically expand directories?

Is there a way to have the folder expand by simply putting the mouse over it? The preferences for folder tree seem to imply that I can…it says ‘expand branches when dragging over the tree’ (I don’t understand spring loaded), but I can’t get that to work. I see a + next to a folder, but to see what’s in the folder I have to click it.

Or alternatively, have Opus expand the whole folder list to the maximum depth?

Am I missing something?

"expand branches when dragging over the tree" means that the branch expands when you drag a file over it, so you can drop it to some subfolder. "Spring loaded" means that the branch collapses automatically when you're dropped the file. I don't think there's an option to expand tree by just hovering with mouse.

Has this "Mouse hover selects" ever been requested as a feature ?
Wonder how difficult it would be to code that into such an environment as this full-fledged file manager?

I use another great app called "True Launch Bar", which has the ability to configure such an action,
as well as to set the speed at which this occurs -- this can be a tricky "feature" ,
but if you set it 'slow' enough - to give you time in the beginning to get used to it,
then it can be set faster over time, even up to the point of a reflex-based 50 or 100 ms -- that's Fast!

It's got to be an internal command in one of the APIs, right?

That's interesting....if I load the mouse with a short file name of a dummy file, say x.x and then threaten to move it to a directory, the behavior is what I want..I can go down the list, open directories and if I don't have the spring feature on, they stay open

One thing is that I can't see the contents of the directory in the right hand panel as I traverse the directory structure.

Any ideas for that one?

Admittedly, I haven't tried true launch bar.

You can expand a branch and all it's children by pressing the + key twice, if that helps.

Jon,
Thanks...that's exactly what I was trying to do.
My wife had directories inside directories inside...on her pictures folder. Now I can straighten it out.
