Hi All,
How can I create bookmarks for directories/folder?
Thank you!
There is a shortcut to add your current directory to the favorites, Ctrl-Win-Alt-V, so that´s maybe the closest thing to bookmarks.
You can also use the alias system to access frequently used locations. Just make a button or shortcut using
Favorites ADD=alias NAME={dlgstring}
For example, if you added some alias called "Downloads", you can type a slash "/" followed by your alias, in that case "Downloads".
Depending on your settings there should be some word completion function (under -> settings -> preferences -> folders -> folder completion -> show pop up),
so you have to type only a few characters. Alternatively you can set up your "bookmarks" as tabs, which you can save/load as a whole tab group.
I can´t say, if there is already some standard buttons in the default toolbars, but you can also achieve this by setting up a new menu button, containing
Go TABGROUPSAVE=!both for the save function (you can leave out the "=both!" part, if you only want to save the current side)
& Go TABGROUPLIST=keys to view your list of tabgroups.
Just use the Favorites menu (or indicated hotkeys):
I am not sure what Abr is talking about with the Ctrl-Win-Alt-V hotkey. That is not part of the standard configuration and may be something he has made himself, which would not work for anyone else.
Aliases, which Abr also mentions, can be useful if you want to be able to quickly go to paths by typing a short name, or to refer to paths in commands that can be changed without changing all the commands. But if you just want to bookmark a folder then just use the Favorites menu and don't worry about aliases as that's not what they are for.
Sorry for the wrong hotkey info (Ctrl-Alt-V). I must have put it there quite a long time ago.
As i just checked, i changed my Ctrl-D combination to some other task.
I know this is an old post, but it's exactly what I'm looking for. I recently added two folders as favorites, but that's not exactly what I want. These are obscure folders, buried several layers deep. I won't be using them very often, don't want to see them prominently at the top of my folder tree and don't want an alias for them. However, I would like to find them easily if needed later. A bookmark--perhaps organized under a "Systems Folders" category--would seem to be the best solution. Can I make this a formal feature request?
The bookmarks list is a tree. You can organise it into categories or whatever you want. Just use the Edit Favorites item in the menu to get started.
Thanks for the super-speedy reply! Okay, so Favorites is basically the same as bookmarks and serves to manage both frequently and obscure/infrequently accessed folders. Fair enough. I added a "Systems Folders" branch, moved both of these favorites under it, renamed the saved paths with a helpful description, and collapsed the Favorites tree so it's out of the way.
I'm just getting re-familiarized with DOpus after a few years away... It takes some effort to get reacquainted with all the power and settings, but a worthwhile effort.
Digging down through the menus is never much fun though--especially for frequently accessed settings. The Settings/Preferences search filter is a life-saver. Any possibility of adding a right-click shortcut to Favorites List Preferences directly from the Favorites root folder?
Bookmarks and Favorites are two names for the same thing.
The "Edit Favorites" menu item should be right at the top of the Favorites menu, which is directly on the default file display toolbar (assuming you are using the Opus 11 default toolbars).
You could not have more direct access to it without putting it on the toolbar itself (which you can do if you want!).
Good heavens it was right in front of me. I would have found it eventually... The UX is a little different from what I'm used to. Well, that takes care of everything I need for now. Thanks!
