There are a couple of features I'd like to see brought back, as options:
Coloured window title bars
This was apparently removed because of problems with XP themes, but I don't use themese in XP and it works fine. With this feature, you can easily see which is source and which is destination when you have multiple listers open.
Replace/All and Skip/All buttons
The new system of having press shift or use the drop down menu seems like a step backwards. Now, you need either two clicks or keyboard+mouse, instead of just one click for this often used function.
For this issue, you could try changing the Lister Window Icon to different colors. V8.x supports different colors for:
• Source Lister
• Destination Lister
• Off Lister (not source or destination)
• Dual lister
Version 6.x. was not as flexible in this regard. It's isn't quite as noticeable, but it helps.
It's a shame you can't change the icon itself, although even that isn't enough... Actually, the old simple icons were easier to see, the new shaded one is less immediately obvious in terms of colour.
One other option would be to allow the lister background colour to change based on source/destination. That would not be able to conflict with XP themes in any way.
You can set both the dark and light shade for the icons to the same colour - which will be just like the old icons.
Why not turn on "show file display border in single display mode" then?
With todays screen resolutions the display line lost to show this has little impact and it will provide you with an obvious indication of source/destination.

Ah, true, I forgot about that. It certainly helps.

Why waste any screen space at all? I run in 1280x1024, but I like to multi-task so usually end up with a busy screen. It's a solution for now, but not an ideal one.
I really just can't understand why working features were removed. Why not just set them off by default if they conflict, and pop up a warning when they are enabled?
Still, Unicode support makes it worth sticking with 8.
It's not wasted screen space - it's telling you which is source and destination.
The title bar also has a number of useful buttons.
As for the removal of features, I can only surmise that the number of problems it caused outweighed the benefits. GPSoftware don't usually remove features without good reason.
I wonder though why the only benefit you have seen in Opus 8 is unicode. There are LOTS of new features and improvements since 6.

Okay, sure, sure Back in the Amiga days there was something similar, but it doubled up as a tool for changing the sort order. I like multi-purpose, space saving gadgets.
They are all duplicated on the default toolbar.
True enough, but I just don't have a use for them. Maybe one day I'll find a use of encrypted FTP. I suppose the new JPEG2000 plugin sort of counts, in that it doesn't work with 6.
Comming from AmigaOS, I like things small, efficient and fast. I'd stick with V6 if it supported Unicode, it does everything I could ever want of a file manager and tool launcher.

Well given that Advanced FTP is not included in Opus by default then it's not relevant to the discussion.
Unless of course, you paid the extra for it "in case" you need it later....[/quote]
Ah, I didn't even realise, since I never used it. As I say, I just wanted the Unicode support which is absolutely essential to me (I work with lots of Japanese file names).
Opus 8 Unicode is basically "perfect" in my eyes, apart from the few small niggles I mentioned earlier. What more could you possibly ask of a Windows file manager?
I've got one of my mouse buttons bound to a Shift key. Makes doing a Replace All an easy, one handed operation.
(I had it bound to Shift for doing multi-selection, shift-deleting and other stuff a long time before the dialog changed to how it is now. Guess I was lucky )
