Bug. Dopus does not synchronize empty folders

This happened after one of the latest updates.

Example. I have one main folder Photos in drive D and drive E, with several subfolder.

There are two backup folders in Photos in drive D, Backup 1 and Backup 2, but only Backup 1 in drive E. Backup 2 is an empty folder.

Case 1 . Dopus does not sync (copy) Backup 2 (empty folder), regardless of the Comparison option when the content of all subfolders is identical. When I add a file to Backup 2, Dopus copies Backup 2 to drive E.

This reminds me of the earlier bug where Dopus didn’t synchronize empty folders.

Case 2 . I have another main folder in drive D and E where the folder structure and the filenames are identical, but where the content on the files is different. In this case Dopus recognizes the empty folder when using the date (different) or size option. But the empty folder is not recognized when using the filename only option.

When I add a file to Backup 2 the synchronization works as expected.

Are you sure it changed after an update? Can you confirm which version it was? (You can download older versions from Download Opus - Directory Opus Self-Service Support for testing.)

AFAIK this is how it was always supposed to work. Sync is file-based and aims to avoid creating empty folders.

The latest beta 13.13.4 with the new syncronize option: filenames only.
I installed it today.

I installed the update today. But I upgraded from version 13.12 to13.13 yesterday, or the day before that. So, I cannot say exactly when this happened today or in an earlier version. Maybe the problem existed in earlier version.

I will install 13.12 later today.

I first described the problem in a post April 5 2024. The essence of my inquiry was.

Dopus no longer synchronize (sees) empty folders. But as soon as I put a file in one of my empty folders, Dopus copies that folder and the content from my D drive to my E drive.

Replay from Jon.

This is fixed in the 13.4.4 beta; you can use that now if you like or wait for 13.5 which will probably be released in a week or so.

Conclusion . Dopus should synchronize empty folders.

I have tested synchronize with Compare option: date (different) or size. The results are identical in Dopus 13.10, Dopus 13.12 and Dopus 13.13. I restarted my PC after each new install.

  1. Same folder structure and file names, different file content. Dopus recognise empty folder.
  2. Same folder structure and file names, similar file content. Dopus recognise empty folders.

Conclusion . Versions prior to the latest Beta recognise empty folders and these folders will be copied from my D drive to my E drive. .

Results for the latest Beta .

Dopus 13.13.4 (beta). Compare option: date (different) or size.

  1. Same folder structure and file names, different file content. Dopus do recognise empty folder.
  2. Same folder structure and file names, similar file content. Results: No changes detected or required. Dopus does not recognise empty folder.

Dopus 13.13.4 (beta). Compare option: filenames only.

  1. Same folder structure and file names, different file content. Results: No changes detected or required. Dopus does not recognise empty folder.
  2. Same folder structure and file names, similar file content. Results: No changes detected or required. Dopus does not recognise empty folder.

Conclusions .
Something broke synchronization of empty folders between Dopus 13.13 and Dopus 13.13.4 (beta). One common observation is that Dopus does not recognize empty folders in the latest beta when the file content is identical, and not at all when compare option is filenames only.
