It updates when the folder list is collapsed, though.

Opus is a file manager, not an email client. It shouldn’t be showing that at all.
Can you post a screenshot?
My bad. I was reporting a bug to Mozilla about Thunderbird and did not realize I posted it to the Directory Opus site! Go ahead and delete the entire thread.
