Can Dopus officially support Listary and Everything?
Support in what way?
Looks like the OP forgot about his question so I'll take the opportunity to continue in his stead.
I would like to ask for a better support or integration, for a lack of better word, with Listary. The major feature of Listary is being able to start typing to find a directory or file (this much is implemented in DO as "Find-as-you-type") upon which Listary displays a short list of matching entries, key difference being the string can be anywhere within the word, not only at the beginning. You can use cursor keys to scroll up and down the list and press Enter to open the directory or file in the associated program.
I would like to be able to point out the concrete issue that prevents Listary from integrating seamlessly with DO but unforunately I do not know. It might be easier and more comfortable for you to extend the filter bar with this functionality directly instead of relying on third-party software, but I will leave that to your consideration, seeing as I know nothing about the difficulty of actually implementing such a thing.
For what it's worth, the author of Listary also expressed his wish for Listary to work in tandem with Directory Opus.
You can watch the video showcasing the feature here (starts at 0:59).
You haven't seen new Listary 4 beta, have you?
In the new version Listary searches not only for files in current directory, which DO already can do, but also searches in all subdirectories. So if I'm in D:\Setups and type "opus" it will find D:\Setups\System\Tools\Cool\DOpus.exe in a second.
On the other hand, this is similar to what you do using "search" mode in find-as-you-type. Also, you can use flat view. So I'm confused if this is something that is really needed. I'm sure there are a lot of other things waiting to be done.
Thank your for the reply!
I didn't know there was a beta version available so I gave it try. It works better but unless I'm missing something you need to press Win+S every time you enter new folder thus eliminating the ability to move around fast using only your keyboard.
Also, I think we have a bit of a mix-up here. The Find-As-You-Type function in DO can't do partial matching. The filter bar can do partial matching, but you can't activate it by typing... In short, I'd like to have one function that can search for files just by typing, allows for partial matching and it's easy to move around the individual matches. So far there are three options (find bar, filter bar, listaryú but none of them can do it all.
Turn off Preferences / File Displays / Filter Bar / Activation key and the filter bar will then activate as soon as you start typing (unless what you type is one of the keys like > and = which trigger specific FAYT modes).
Personally I'm used to press activation key before searching. This is consistent with most web browsers' behavior.
Go to Preferences / File Displays / Find-As-You-Type and see what DOpus already have.
Especially "search" (one of FAYT options) which will trigger search in all subdirectories.
Unless you have enabled FAYT in your browser, too
How did I not think of that? Thank you, now it suits my needs better. However, it's still unwieldy to move between the filtered entries with keyboard
In what way? You just push return and use the cursor keys.
Anyway, we might be able to provide an API (or implement an existing one, as appropriate) for Listary to use to get whatever information it needs from Opus windows, but we don't know what it needs.
