I noticed that RAW images that were shot with current Canon EOS cameras (e.g. 750 / 760 / M3) can be opened and saved by DOpus 11.12 but not converted (since they are display with false colors in the conversion dialog).
The Canon RAW CR2 File Format is versionized, thus younger cameras typically use a more recent revision to encode CR2 files. Obviously the most recent EOS 750D / 760D / M3 cameras bump the internal CR2 file version or at least use a different encoding...
That's the reason why you sometimes need to update the Adobe Camera RAW plugin to enable Photoshop to open RAW files from recently released cameras. To support the previously mentioned cameras you need to update Camera RAW to version 8.7 otherwise Photoshop won't open these newest CR2 files.
The underlying dcraw seems to miss the profile for your specific camera. I had similar issues with raw files from panasonic in the past. I switched to also shoot jpg (beside the raw) to have quick access to images which don't need conversion or processing with dedicated tools.
Also check the raw file plugin, you can choose what the source is when creating jpgs. It can be the raw image data (then it's dcraw kickin in) and you also can use the jpg-preview within the raw to create standalone jpgs. Depending on your camera and raw-format, these preview jpgs may not deliver full resolution, but can be quite sufficient for web-publishing or similar.
Ok, did some test photos and actually the embedded JPEG can not be disabled. To be honest I have never taken photos with JPEG enabled before, thus I haven't been aware of (or even thought about) these separate JPEG files.
Anyway the mentioned CR2 file actually includes a JPEG preview and the current DOpus RAW camera plugin doesn't support the newest format version.
BTW: Obviously the convert image dialog seems to fully decode the RAW instead of using the fast decoding (if thumbnail is available). This seems to be the reason why the dialog always need a much longer time (than the viewer pane) to display the preview...
Thanks for the sample image! Always helps to have some from each new camera model to test with.
There will be an updated Raw plugin in the next release which works with the new Canon EOS cameras (and a few others). I've tested the new code and it does a correct full-decode of your file.
