Can't move files to subfolders

Hello:

I have had a perplexing thing happen to DOpus (which I updated to the latest version a few days ago).

I can drag and drop files from a subfolder to its main folder, and between subfolders, but not from a main folder to any of its subfolders.

I do not know if this happened with the new version (it is possible) or what the problem can be.

Would be most grateful for help.

Regards,

Hans L

I want to mention that I have experimented with the setting

Settings – Preferences – Listers – File Display – Allow drag and drop into sub-folders (without a qualifier key held down

but whether it is checked or not checked makes no difference.

Regards,

Hans L

Do you have write permissions to the subfolder?

When I right-click on folders and then click Properties, they are all Read-Only. Have no idea how this happened. I have looked in the DOpus Guide, but I can't find or figure our or remember how to set all folders to *not" Read-Only". Please ...

Hans L

And I can.t change the Read-Only in the Properties dialog box.

I want to report that I can move files to subfolders in Windows Explorer and I can move files to subfolders in Dopus if I drag them to the subfolder in the Folder Tree.

But all folders are Read-Only in Windows Explorer too.

I am the administrator and I use XP Home.

I'd like to help you Hans, but I cannot duplicate the problem here on my XP box. The only way I've been able to re-create the problem is by unticking the "Prefs/Listers/File Display/Allow drag and drop into subfolders" option but you said that doesn't make any difference.

By the way, a folder being read only is not likely to be the problem as you've also figured out.

What happens if you hold a qualifier key (CTRL, SHIFT, or ALT) down while trying to drag and drop?

John, I am glad you cannot duplicate my problem

I tried the qualifier keys before, but no cigar. However, this time, I did the Ctrl+ twice, and I then discovered that the file in question had been copied into the subfolder in question. So, drag and drop copy works, but not drag and drop move.

And you are right – I do not think the Read-Only attribute is the problem either.

But what a strange problem this is.

What happens when you try to drag?

  • Does the mouse pointer change to indicate it will copy or move, or does it show a "not allowed" icon?

  • Does the "Target: ..." tooltip appear when you've dragging over a sub-folder?

Which folder are you trying this in?

  • Is it a special folder like Desktop or a normal directory?

  • Have you tried a few different folders?

If you go to Settings -> File Types, what is the Drag-and-Drop event set to for:

  • All files

  • All files and folders

  • All folders

Hans L: Lea, here is what I have:

What happens when you try to drag?

  • Does the mouse pointer change to indicate it will copy or move, or does it show a "not allowed" icon?

Hans L: As soon as I move the cursor, the "not allowed" icon shows. Then, when the dotted frame appears around the nearest folder, the "not allowed" icon disappears and the normal arrow appears again.

  • Does the "Target: ..." tooltip appear when you've dragging over a sub-folder?

Hans L: Yes

Which folder are you trying this in?

  • Is it a special folder like Desktop or a normal directory?

Hans L: Normal directories

  • Have you tried a few different folders?

Hans L: Yes, many.

If you go to Settings -> File Types, what is the Drag-and-Drop event set to for:

  • All files

Hans L: All four drag-and-drop "not defined"

  • All files and folders

Hans L:

Drag-and-drop: Copy MOVEWHENSAME
Drag-and-drop + Alt: not defined
Drag-and-drop + Ctrl: Copy
Drag-and-drop + Shift: not defined

  • All folders

Hans L: All four "not defined"

Hans L: I was looking for "All files" etc, but could not remember they were under "File Types" (this whole problem got me a little flustered). I am sure the above answers are telling.

I also saw, in a URL reference in one of DOpus Resource Center's posts, a mention of Acronis True Image. I upgraded to the latest (2009), and it has givenme nothing but grief. I have a suspicion that it is the culprit here. I will go back to v. 11.

What of the above Drag-and-drop should I change to what?

Thanks,

Hans L

Leo, Lea should have been Leo. Sorry!

Since there have been several Drag and Drop changes between 9.1.1.5 and 9.1.1.6, I would like to uninstall DOpus 9.1.1.6 and reinstall 9.1.1.5 to see if I cna get my move function back. However, I have deleted my version 9.1.1.5. If someone still has it, could you send it to me via YouSendIt of similar to

Thanks!

I uninstalled DOpus, removed all traces of it in registry, and installed again. With default settings, I could move files to subfolders again. When I restored saved settings from November 2008, I could, again, not move files into subfolders.

So, something in my settings are has gone wrong. One has to suspect "Allow drag and drop into subfolders (without a qualifier key held down)".

Would anyone know what registry value is involved, and what it should be?

And how can I get back to default settings for all drives?

I do not need v. 9.1.1.5 now, since I know that 9.1.1.6 works.

If you attach your Opus config backup to a private message I'll import it and see if I can work out what's causing the problem.
