Can't stop Dopus from opening when I start windows with default folder = "The Internet"

Hi there

In the last month or so, Dopus has started opening up a lister automatically with the default folder of "the Internet" - see Fig 1, below. I haven't changed anything in the settings. I typically have the "Launch Directory Opus on system startup" with "Don't open..." set, per recommendations (Fig 2).

The expected behaviour to me is that I don't get any listers open on the desktop, but Dopus does open in the background so it can open faster. This is how it has worked up till recently.

I've noticed that Dopus also seems to create an entry in the Windows Startup folder which I don't recall seeing before. This points to a link which calls "C:\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopus.exe NOAUTOLISTER STARTUP" (Fig 3). When I test this call after killing all sopus.exe, it works as expected (no lister) so I then assumed that my startup options might be opening something, but I can't find anything.

This is happening on three different machines with different setups though. One is a business machine with restricted apps (so small number of startups) and the other two are personal, but running different startup apps. The common apps include Adobe CC, Google Drive, OneDrive, Ditto, Everything, Keepass, and Snagit.

I've hunted for a solution but can't find anything other than references to the startup options. It is kind of annoying as I like my computers to start clean. Any pointers would be welcome. Thank you.

See the information towards the end of the thread, including hovering over the (i) icon - if you have the most recent beta version installed this may reveal which process is launching the folder.

It's probably Power Toys Command Palette that's triggering the problem.

We've made a change for the next beta which will resolve the issue.

Until then, a quick way to avoid the problem is to go to Preferences / Launching Opus / Explorer Replacement and then select:

  • Replace Explorer for all file system folders (recommended)

instead of Replace Explorer for all folders or similar.

Seems to be it. Also works if I disable Command Palette, although that's not ideal. Thanks for the help, I'll look out for the beta update.
