CD thumbnails have wrong aspect ratio

when i view a folder full of mp3s that contains a folder.jpg in Thumbnails mode, the folder looks like a CD. unfortunately, the aspect ratio is wrong - the image is wider than it should be and it looks unnatural. i have seen in some screenshots here that it looks fine in other peoples' setups.

is it my settings? my widescreen display? (my eyes? :open_mouth:) how can i fix this?

thanks!

Opus will distort covers to make them fit in the CD case, but the CD case should be square which isn't the case in your screenshots.

Maybe it's triggered by certain thumbnail Preferences.

Below is a picture of my Preferences so you can compare against yours, and also a screenshot showing my thumbnails where two of the covers are the same as yours and the covers are square.

hmm, i set it just like yours and it looks the same...

Try closing the window and, emptying the thumbnail cache (via the adjust thumbnail settings link you can see in my screenshot) and then going back to the folder.

The dynamic sizing option may be important, too. There was a bug several months ago where CD thumbs got distorted when dynamic sizing was turned off (if I remember correctly). Maybe there's still a problem there with certain combinations of settings.

Closing and re-opening the window is important to make sure it completely regenerates the thumbnails using the new settings.

Just in case it's something to do with the folder images themselves, here are two of mine:

i've re-opened, cleared the cash, changed all the settings i could think of...

dynamic sizing is turned on. and image thumbnails look fine. if i look at my mp3s in thumbnail mode the images are square.

my folder.jpg images are all square, and between 700x700 and 1000x1000. but the are all distorted...

and now i can't get my folder icons to change. all my other icons - drive, special folders, etc are custom, but my regular folder icons are still yellow. i read your FAQ and have it set right in the registry, but no luck...

grr

Apart from the thumbnail label font size (I use 9pt, yours looks like 8pt, but I doubt it's important) I can't think of anything else.

If you do a full config backup (Settings->Backup & Restore) and send it to me via a private message I'll try and have a look at it to see if I can reproduce what you're seeing after importing the config.

Maybe it's because you've replaced Explorer as the Windows shell? The icon lookup/replacement mechanism is tied to Explorer, I think.

it's ok i can live with the CD thumbnails. i probably won't use that function very often anyway...

as for the icons, i did have it replacing explorer, but i turned that off and restarted but it's the same.

actually the icons aren't customized in explorer either, but they do show up differently in xplorer2...

i'll just stop being so picky and use yellow folder icons. anyway i'm about to head out of town for the weekend so i'm done playing for a few days.

thanks leo!

ok if i open icontweaker and restore my original XP icons the change shows up immediately (all other icons change back), then if i apply my theme again, it shows up, until i restart Opus, then the open and closed folder icons revert to the yellow ones, but all the rest stay customized. strange...

Icons: I don't know what IconTweaker does. I've only changed the icons via the registry settings.

CD Thumbnails: If there's nothing private in your config it'd be nice to take a look at it to see if I can reproduce the problem, even if you don't want to use the feature. Up to you though.

icontweaker changes icons via the registry, probably the same way you do, just makes it a little easier.

It could be something to do with Window's icon caching. I don't really know though, except that just changing the registry values works fine for me.

Not all icon changers work by modifying the registry values so unless you've investigated what IconTweaker does it's not a safe assumption.

it's not an assumption, i watched itwith NirSoft's RegFromApp and it sets icons in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer
