Checkbox Mode: Bug or by design

When in version OD 11.12 the "Check-Box Mode" is turned on and the option "Cancel Checkbox mode when folder is changed" is off, I would expect that the status of the check boxes will be kept as well when I change a folder.

My intention is to "check" several images or audio files within different sub-folders and to copy all of them at once to a new location.

Right now the Checkbox mode remains but the status of the checkboxes itself gets lost when switching to a new folder!
Is this intended or a bug?

In one copy operation? Checkbox mode is the wrong tool for that job, at least on its own.

There are ways to do it, but before we get to that, is there a reason you're using 11.12 and have skipped the last year of free updates to Opus 11? If you're worried about bugs or asking for advice, it makes sense to be on the current update.

Yes, there is! The latest version 11.18 is installed on my desktop PC and the 11.12 is on my USB stick. As the operational area of the Dopus USB is completely different I have made of course totally different settings (in any aspect) for the USB version.
I fear to loose important settings either of the desktop or the USB version. I will update the USB Version not before Dopus 12 in peace and quiet. "Never change a running system!"

I you say that its the intended behaviour that checkboxes lose their status when changing folders, its totally fine with me. There are indeed many other ways to achieve my goal  I just wanted to make sure that this is no misbehavior. Thanks!

I always update USB-version over years... no probs. So don't be afraid and just only use "update" and not "replace". BTW you can simply copy the "DOPUS"-folder before updating.

Either using Flat View + Checkboxes, or using a file collection to add all the things you want to copy from different folders into a single list, are probably the best ways to achieve what you want.

As Sasa says, when you do a USB export to a memory stick which already has Opus on it, you are given the option of just updating the program, or exporting your HDD configuration to it as well. If you choose the option to only update the program then the USB stick's config will be left alone. As Sasa also says, you can copy the folder on the USB stick to somewhere save if you want a backup of those settings, too.

Leo?

All I know is that is how it works, and has always worked. Selection is remembered if using the history to return to a folder, but checkbox states are not.

OK. That makes sense when you think about the wording of the second option he mentioned:

Peacock, I see that as a way to keep Checkbox mode turned on. It does not imply it will remember which checkboxes are checked.

its the intended behaviour, found the answer in the "Opus 12 Changes.pdf" in the section "Image marking":
.... You might recognise this as the old function in Opus 11 called “Tag”, which let you select a picture in the viewer and have its checkbox in the Lister automatically turned on. While this system worked it was a bit clunky
– firstly, the Lister had to remain open and in the same folder the whole time, and the checkbox state was easy to lose by, e.g., accidentally pushing F5 or changing the folder. Additionally, the state wasn’t persistent
– so you really had to finish going through a whole photo collection at once...
