Clicking on a file item puts the caret within the filename - how to disable that?

Dear all

Sometimes, when I click (double-click? two clicks with a delay in-between?) on a file or folder, the caret appears within the leafname, so as to rename the file. That happens by accident when I want merely to select, or else open, the item. How can I disable the renaming behaviour, please? I've looked in the preferences and on this forum, but to no avail.

I'm surprised you aren't used to that from File Explorer.

You can turn it off via here:

Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced: [Behavior] slow_dblclk_rename

Thank you. I hadn't noticed File Explorer doing that.

Explorer has worked that way since Win95 at least.

Not for me it hasn't, somehow. Perhaps I disabled that behaviour.
