Copy resets date and time

"Preserve the attributes of copied files: This preserves the attributes of files when they are copied. Without this option attributes will be reset on the new files. This can be overridden by the COPYATTR argument."

I have the Preserve the Attributes box checked in File Operations, but when I copy files from one drive to another the date and time are reset to the current date and time. What am I misunderstanding? Thank you.

There is another option just below that one: Preserve the timestamps of copied files

Thank you. Yes, I failed to mention that one is also checked. I have to be misunderstanding something simple.

What kind of destination are you copying to? Is it a local drive on a Windows machine, or something more unusual, like a network share (which OS?) or an archive or FTP site?

It is from and to external USB3 drives on a Win10 machine.

If you select a file on that drive and then use Touch Modified Date, does its timestamp change? (If it doesn't change after a few seconds, try pushing F5 in case it is changing but not triggering a refresh.)

Where do I find that menu, it isn't in my right click pulldown. Google shows me pages about Touch Modified Date for Linux.

It's here if you are using the default Opus 12 toolbars:

For me, it's in the "Operations" toolbar. Make sure you have that showing and you'll get a Button Menu named Properties. (This was in Opus 11 and 12.)

The only modification I made to my Properties button menu was to add Get Sizes because that made sense.

Thank you. Leo, yes that changes the date and time.

Thanks for checking that.

When copying files, are the timestamps only incorrect for that one drive? And does it happen for all file types or just some? I am wondering if something is monitoring the drive and modifying the files or timestamps just after they are written.

What are the exact steps that you're doing to copy the files? (e.g. Copy & paste, drag & drop, select and clicking Copy Files, etc.)

Drag and drop. I will experiment with your questions ...
