I connected an old iPhone (SE) via USB cable to my PC (Win 10) and tried to drag photos from the phone to the PC in Dopus. Copying acted erratically, leaving out some files, interrupting copying at various points, etc. Any way to fix this?

Copy seems to work better than drag-and-drop. I usually use Flatview to avoid copying folders.
Try IMazing
Leo, that was some answer. I tried :Keep originals", and it still did not work. Will keep on experimenting.
Thanks. Will consider it.
3 Suggestions.
1: Try a new or different cord. Not all cords are good for data transfer. That is often the problem
2: On your old iPhone, find the name of the iCloud account /Apple ID associated with the iPhone.
If you currently have an iPhone, check to see if it is associated with the same iCloud account. If it is, any photos and videos you see on the old iPhone should be in your account.
3: Because iPhones do not have a navigable folder structure for photos and videos, it's best to use an application like iMazing, which is available for Mac and PC.
To use IMazing, you need to connect the iPhone to a computer running IMazing. Again, an old cord may cause problems.
