On one particular image folder DOpus 10.5.2.0 kept crashing when I wanted to view thumbnails. It took me some time to find the culprit, and it appeared to be a GIF file 800 pixels wide, 12864 pixels (yes, I know...) high. I know the bug is in the thumbnail generator, because it also happens when I view the folder in details mode and hover over it (which is supposed to generate a thumbnail). Removing this one file from my folder solved the crashing problem.
Can you give us a copy of the file to investigate?
It's possible the crash is due to a shell extension and not part of Opus itself, but if we can try with the file ourselves we can check how Opus handles it.
Hi,
thanks for the quick reply. The file is in attachment. BTW, I just updated to the latest version (v10.5.3.0) and the problem is also there.
A thought: the problem could be the combination of a huge file which is also animated.
More info: the crash doesn't happen if I remove the animation frames from the GIF. So non-animated GIF thumbnails are generated properly. I could edit the file in Photoshop, so the original is a valid GIF file.
Thank you! I can confirm that the crash happens here as well.
It looks like the Animated GIF plugin is crashing when generating a thumbnail for the file, so if you need a temporary way to avoid the crash you can disable the plugin under Preferences / Viewer / Viewer Plugins. (You'll still be able to view GIF files, but only the first frame of animated ones.)
We'll get this fixed in the plugin for the next Opus update, so that it can be enabled again.
Thanks again for the report and the file!
Hi Leo,
thanks for taking care of it. Oh yes, one more thing (do I sound like Steve Jobs? ): for all other animated GIFs I have everything is OK: the preview when hovering over the filename, the thumbnails view and the player that plays the animation. I guess it's just because the other file is so large.
Regards,
Steven
The fix for this is done and will be part of the forthcoming Opus 10.5.3.2 beta.
Thanks again.
