Crash / Unhandled Exception 0x00000005 on Opening Dopus Version 13.11 / 13.11.4

Today, every time that I try to open Directory Opus, it crashes with Unhandled Exception 0xc00000005. See the screenshot. The thread and address referenced in the error message vary. I am unable to find a log file to check for more information. I believe that the log is generated through a command within the application, which of course I cannot access.

Neither reinstalling v13.11.4 beta nor v13.11 solved the problem. OS is Win 11 Pro Version 10.0.22635 Build 22635.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

David

Was the same version working previously? Or have you tried an older version that was working before to see if it still works?

I use Directory Opus almost daily and have had no notable problems since upgrading to v13 back in August. So far today I have only tried reinstalling beta v13.11.4 then reverting from it to v13.11, as well as restarting the PC a couple of times. I will try installing v13.10 to see if that makes a difference.

The same crash occurs when I try to launch v13.10. I keep the application up to date, so it seems that versions which were previously problem-free now crash. Presumably some other very recent change in my system has introduced an instability or conflict. I'll retrace my steps to see if I can spot any suspects.

Have you checked the %TEMP%\DOpus.Minidumps folder for crash logs?

There are 10 .dmp files in there. Would you like me to forward one for review? If so, how should I do that?

Crash log sent.

Thank you!

The crash seems to be triggered by a shell extension found at:

C:\ProgramData\Nokl\installed\ShellNamespaceExtentionx64.dll

I can't find any information online about what that may be from but if you rename that file it should let you get Opus back up and running in the short term.

looks like its from this site's cloud program

IMHO placing of executables, libraries, constant data in directories like C:\ProgramData\ is an invitation for malware. And I could say the same about installations of (Acitve) Perl or Python.
Seems like programmers with roots in Unix like systems act like barbarians in Windows environment.

Thanks, Jon. Once I uninstalling NOKL and rebooted, Directory Opus v13.10 opened normally.
