Custom toolbar textbox

I've found an old topic from 2007 that requests this feature, but no other mentions about it.

Is it possible to create a custom textbox in the toolbar?
Or at least customize what the current one does (e.g. instead of calling Microsoft search, run our own scripts?)

Not currently, although we have some ideas in that direction.
