Every time I try to disassociate extensions DAT files from video group via file types in DOPUS it seems to screw up other extensions like MP4 - like the icon setting for MP4 and its association
Editing the video group shows no extension for DAT under the group either
I am going into the DOPUS file type manager and changing the association to no programs and no icon
I am also trying to disassociate the VIDEOS group from the DAT extension
This seems to affect more than the DAT file though
Are you deleting everything under System File Types > Dat > Actions and Events? Or something else?
From what you said earlier, it doesn't sound like DAT is part of the Videos file type group, so you can ignore the group entirely. It won't be a factor unless the extension is listed as being part of the group.
You probably want to use RegEdit.exe, then go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dat and delete the (Default) value there. That will disassociate the .dat extension from any file types/classes. Reboot afterwards to avoid any cached information being used, and see if that solves things.
You may then also need to repair the MP4 type, e.g. using Open With, if it is still showing the wrong icon.
Failing that, I would take it up with whichever software is putting its icon on the .dat and .mp4 files, and ask them how to prevent their software taking over that particular type.
I am just changing the options there to remove the icon and dis-associate it from a video extensions
But upon hitting EDIT, I notice the extensions says .3g2 and NOT dat
I also notice that the mime type says video/3gpp2
It screwed up my MP4 settings when I tries to adjust these or the icon for DAT
I had to restore my PC to correct things
I checked my video player for DAT and it was not mentioned.
Also re-associating the MP4 with the correct program ONLY opened the program and not the actual playing of the video.
BTW, if the registry there is a field called PERCEIVED TYPE that says VIDEO - should that be changed ?
