Hello - not sure what happened, but it suddenly stopped working. This was not after the v13 upgrade, it was working fine in 13.3.
I checked the several other threads on this, but still trying to figure out exactly what is going on, instead of a quick fix. The only way I found that fixes it, is to add the Delete button to a toolbar. However, I'm fairly sure I never had a Delete button in a toolbar (I must have removed it way back).
What I did recently, was to Customize/Keys/Lister Keys/Hotkeys/Reset to Default. Not sure if this triggered it. No conflicts in Customize/Keys. This is the only place where Del is listed:
I've seen the Image Viewer Toolbar mentioned in the other threads, but I can't figure out if and where it's enabled. There's no sign of it in right-click/Toolbars.
edit: it's in Customize/Toolbars/Standard Toolbars but looks like Image Viewer is greyed out and cannot be toggled.
You're looking at the image viewer hotkeys (near the bottom of the categories list), not the lister ones (near the top).
The Del hotkey comes from the Delete toolbar button by default these days. But you can make a standalone hotkey for it if you don't want the toolbar button and don't already have a hotkey for it from your old config.
Thank you. Yes, it was not in the lister ones, or anywhere else. Making a new Lister Hotkey for it solved it.
As a test, I reset to default the Lister keys/Hotkeys again and indeed, that newly-created Del hotkey goes away. This seems a bit strange, but I'm sure there's a reason (the Delete toolbar button, I'm guessing).
The Del key does not appear in any of the lists of keys under customize keys. If I try to create a new hotkey, the only choices are Tab, Enter or Escape. There's a Delete command in the File Operations toolbar, but I don't know how to associate a hotkey with it. I find the above discussion very opaque. If I want to use the Del key to delete files, where should I be able to find it among the lists in the customize keys panel? If it doesn't appear there, how do I add it? Thanks for your help.
The only things in that menu are keys that you can't easily press in a dialog because they do other things. You can just press the Del key to assign it like any other key.
