Different behaviour of two FOLDERCONTENT buttons

Can anyone explain for me the different behaviour I am seeing in the following two buttons:

Go PATH /start|/commonstartmenu FOLDERCONTENTThis button shows nicely cascading menus from top to bottom through the various folders encompassed by the individual user and public user start menus

Go PATH /desktopdir|/commondesktopdir FOLDERCONTENTThis button shows one button for each link in the individual user desktop and public user desktop folders, all sorted together into alphabetical order.

The only difference is which folders they show.

Maybe you're getting confused by the fact that most of the items below the start menu folders are within a sub-folder while most of the items below the desktop folders are directly below.

If you want the desktop folder contents to be in a sub-menu, create a new sub-menu in Customize mode and move the command into it.
