Directory Opus profiles: Quick switch between Full and Restriced profiles?

Hi there,

Besides dedicated programs for specific tasks, I mainly live inside Opus when doing computer stuff. Most of the time, I want full access to all locations and files.
However, there are situations (such as collaborating with a friend, co-worker, neighbor behind my computer or viewing photos together) where I’d prefer to temporarily restrict what is visible and accessible, to avoid accidentally exposing private files.

I was thinking a profile-based feature for Directory Opus that allows quick switching between profiles with different levels of file visibility and access would be very handy.
For example, having a “Full Access” profile and a “Restricted” profile, where the restricted profile can be activated with a single click and applies an extra layer... layer of user-defined filters, exclusions, or access restrictions.

  • Hide or exclude specific files/folders (e.g. via Tags or paths)
  • Limit access to certain directories when browsing Opus
  • Exclude indexed items from Everything from Global Everything search Results
  • Different tool bar / Lister / ?

Being able to switch between these profiles quickly would help prevent accidental exposure of private files, while still keeping normal workflow uninterrupted.

Just an idea, but I think this kind of feature would add both convenience and an extra layer of practical privacy for everyday use.

Thanks for considering!

Switching to a different user account with different folder permissions would work best.

Anything that only hides things in Opus would still let people see them when in other software (e.g. File > Open dialogs).

Initially, I wasn't necessarily looking for a waterproof solution, merely an 'easy' and quick way to switch to a slightly more restricted level inside of Opus with the click of a button. However, the risks you mentioned are undeniable. Thank you for your response!
