I'm about to customize my context menus in ver 9.5. I've played w/ it a bit, changing a few items and I think i've got the hang of it. My plan is to leave the Windoze entries disabled and manually enter just the ones I want into the appropriate CM. But I have 2 questions:
I want some CM entries to show for both files & folders, some to show only on folders and others to show only on files. If I go to Settings > File Types > DO File Types the first 3 listings are: All Files, All Files & Folders and All Folders. Great says I - those are just the 3 categories I want. But when I added a new entry into "All Folders" it didn't show up in the CM. So I tried the "All Files & Folders" and it did show up. Also I noticed that "All Folders" appears to be full of Windoze / 3rd party entries. So i'm thinking that I don't understand just what the function of these 3 groups is. Can anyone enlighten me?
Question #2:
When I get all the generic entries done how about the filetype-specific entries? IE: on a dll file I want to see "Register" or "Unregister". Will these just magically appear - even though I have Windoze entries disabled? And if not how do I get them entered? By creating the necessary Flie Type group under DO File Types?
#1: All Folders items work okay for me. Post what you actually added as it may depend on that.
#2: It depends on the type of item you have added. Opus-specific items (ones which run an Opus command) will always appear. Others may be added in a way which allows them to appear in other programs, but also makes them look like generic context menu items (since they are) and thus causes them to be hidden if you've turned off generic items in Opus.
There are ways to force generic items to appear but, again, it depends on how the item is defined. (Windows provides about 15 billion ways for file type data to be defined, which makes all of this fun. Usually you only have to care about about 2 of the ways, though.)
I went back and checked this AM and found the entry in "All Folders" - which is where I want it - and not in "All Files & Folders" which is where I thought I had put it to get it to work. Scary! And, yes, it works.
New questions:
-- Some of the items that I want to add to the "All Folders" CM are 3rd party S/W entries that are all ready in the list of items on the Dopus File Types > "All Folders" window. I assume that they don't appear because i've disabled Windoze / 3rd party CM items in Preffs. So How can I manually add them back in since they're already listed there?
-- I have deleted everything in the "All Folders" CM except for 3 items but the actual menu shows a total of 6 items. I'd like to eliminate 3 of these - Open, Explore and (maybe) Search. How do I do that since they don't show up in the configuration window?
-- I have an autohotkey utility that shows in my existing Windoze CM but it doesn't appear to have a GUID. I checked the script, the install log and did a reg search. It has the exe listed under "HKCR*\shell\createshortcuthere\command" and that's it. Also ran DebugView w/ no luck. How can I add it as a command w/o a GUID?
(1) I have an AV app that i've added to the CM. But the text that actually appears on the CM is much too verbose and I want to edit it. I searched the reg w/ no luck for the specific string. I opened both the dll that gets called when this CM entry is clicked on and the actual exe in RegHacker, looking for the specific string but, again, no luck. Any hints as to where the string that actually displayed in the CM is usually found in the reg?
(2) where do I find the config menu for editing the CM for Drives?
