Hi, I can't get the 'Default Lister position' setting to vary. I've tried all the Default Lister preferences: Fixed relative position, same position, or over the mouse pointer, with or without 'ignore default lister settings'. Anybody any ideas? Thanks.
Double-clicking on the desktop on either of 2 monitors opens the default lister in the same position on the main monitor; clicking on a folder link (eg My Documents) on the second (left side) monitor opens that folder snapped to the left side of the main monitor. (NB once the lister is on the second monitor, subfolders stay there OK).
Most other applications treat the two monitors as expected (IE they remember their positions).
WinXP SP3 and proud of it. In fact I may even buy it.
More marginal info: if I set 'double click on desktop' to open the 'default lister' rather than a saved layout, double clicking on the second monitor opens the default lister snapped to the side - There's a quick flash of it on the second monitor first.
Same thing - the default lister snaps to the left of the primary monitor. The 'above mouse' option works on the primary monitor btw.
OK, this is weird - I connected a third monitor on the right and that behaves perfectly. Listers open where expected. I understand if you don't want to follow this up, but just FYI the monitors are connected thus: Primary to the onboard card (otherwise the replacement soundcards don't work (don't ask)) and secondary monitors to a GeForce 610. The display settings show:
Monitors 2 - 1 - 4 and 3 (not in use)
The number or order of monitors shouldn't matter as far as applications are concerned, unless something is installed which changes things to work in an unusual way (e.g. "multimonitor utilities" or similar tools, or features that may come with some video card drivers).
Thanks Leo, Am using UltraMon, but closing it makes no difference. One day I'll try switching the monitors physically but we all know where replugging computer cables can lead to. Could be the difference between HDMI and DVI connection???
Thanks. The only thing I can think of is that it's because the left-hand monitor's x-position (as monitor 2) is set to "minus 1600" and the new lister defaults to x=zero. But someone else would have come across this, surely.
That should not matter either. If I had to bet, I would still say it's a utility/driver doing something, since the window was opening in one place and then moving, and Opus would just open it where it wanted it to begin with (unless some kind of event-based script is installed, but you'd probably know if you'd installed something like that).
To help to rule out possible influences, DO11 behaves as expected, and as blogward wants, on my dual-monitor (HDMI + DVI) system with an AMD Radeon graphics card and running only the Catalyst Control Centre. This is in both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 Update.
