Hi... just reading the parent folder containing a password protected RAR archive causes Opus to throw a password prompt. I'm in details mode with the following columns showing:
Name, Size, Modified, Attr, Type
...besides the columns that are enabled, what else would be triggering an attempt to read the archive to cause the password prompt to appear?
Disabling the RAR plugin under Preferences / Zip & Other Archives / Archive and VFS Plugins makes the prompts disappear.
Leo - what is this, a v11 Library issues redux? ...
Yeah, you called it... the issue doesn't appear in the physical folder path, but happens every time in the virtual / library path.
There's also something unique about the file that I had this happen on (217 MB)... whereas a smaller sample file that I downloaded from some other site didn't trigger the problem. I also saw that opening my large file in PowerArchiver 2013 prompted for the password just to LIST the RAR contents... whereas I didn't get the same prompt for the smaller test file. Not sure how to examine the files to see what's different about them. Might need to load up a WinRAR 5.0 trial to see whats what between the two files.
I turned off all toolbars and changed the FDT to the old static FDB, and switched off the folder tree as well for good measure... but Opus still prompts for password.
Yes, I'm just reading the parent folder - not trying to open the actual RAR file. I only mentioned what PowerArchiver does to call out that there is something specific to this RAR file that is causing the password prompt but that it doesn't seem to be ONLY that it is a password protected RAR file. I can send you a link to the file I see the problem with if you're inclined to see if it happens on your system under a library path.
RAR files can have just the file contents encrypted, or the headers (directory listings etc.) and contents encrypted. In the first case the password is only needed to extract files while in the latter it is needed to open the archive at all.
Opus tries to avoid looking inside the second type of archive in any "passive" situation but maybe we've missed a case when libraries are involved.
I've not been able to repro this with Beta, trying in a library with both types of encrypted RAR archive (data-only and headers+data), including with the tree on and in thumbnails mode (in case it was related to either).
Beta 9 has a change that might help, though probably not if you still saw the problem with the breadcrumbs bar turned off, so if it still happens for you then it's a mystery at the moment. Maybe a screenshot of the lister while it happens will show us a detail that didn't seem important?
I haven't posted that video mainly because I haven't been able to upload it yet... I'll get to it tonight hopefully after I retest after upgrading to Beta 9.
I just reverted back to stock configuration and the problem no longer happens though - so... there's something in my config that is causing it. If it still happens after B9 - while I try to figure out which setting is triggering this, would it be worthwhile to send you a copy of my Opus config for you to test with since a stock config works fine?
Actually, while trying to clean out a copy of my config (get rid of password related things, irrelevant bloat from toolbars and other customizations) I figured out what's causing it.
...and you should be able to repro with the file I uploaded, in a library path. Same issue does not occur with the same file and path when viewed through the physical path.
Also, rolled back to a stock config from an earlier beta, re-setup the label filter to color folder icons blue on empty folders (size = o), and then browsed to the library folder containing the rar file I attached and got the password prompt.
