I have a folder with a ico file inside which is used as icon for the folder via desktop.ini . I replaced the file, refreshed the parent folder (nothing happened) updated the folder icon via properties dialog (just reselecting the file) but refreshing again didnt help again. But in Explorer the new icon file was properly displayed (as you can see below). I needed to restart dopus to see the new icon.
If you change the icon using the standard Properties dialog then it should refresh automatically, although it sometimes requires the window be re-opened (same in Explorer in some cases).
If you’re editing the icon or desktop.ini manually then you may need to generate the appropriate shell change notification so that software knows the icon needs refreshing.
(If the Properties dialog is used after a manual change, to set the same icon that’s already set, it may not generate the change event as it probably doesn’t consider it a change.)
