I launched WinAMP for an MP3 in an archive using DOpus, then closed all DOpus windows (with tray icon still present) and that was the end of DOpus on my PC.
When I click DOpus icon it apparently starts (I can check with Filemon that files are opened), but the problem is apparently with registry, as DOpus startup crashes Regmon. Removing DO profile from Documents and Settings doesn't help. DOpus is not visible in Task Manager.
I tried iStreams reg file, but it didn't help. Reinstalling does not help as well.
At Windows closing there is dialog displayed with option to close DOpus.
Before the problem, when you launched listers... did the lister open to the last folder you were in before you closed the last lister?
If so, my next question is... do you have a known good Settings Export of your Opus config (.DPS file)?
No, my settings are to open a new lister always in the same directory.
No, but I have few customizations and I don't mind losing my settings if it helps.
Some more details:
Today morning I started my PC and everything was OK! So I restarted and the problem is back. I didn't have time to try more.
Immediately after the problem happened, I was not able to click anything in the desktop- clicking RMB or LMB icons, programs on task bar etc. produced no result. I killed and restarted Windows Explorer with Task Manager but with no success. I have set DO to completely replace explorer (my account is standard User), but on other accounts on my PC (both Administrator and User), where DO is not used at all and doesn't start with logging in, the problem is identical.
The Filemon and Regmon programs I mention can be found on sysinternals.com
The dialog on closing Windows I mention is standard Windows dialog, where you can 'Wait' or 'Close now' program. It does not appear always, it seems it appears when I earlier try to run DO many times during Windows session.
After reinstalling DOpus, after-install wizard run and DOpus started OK. I installed language pack (which I had used with no problems before) and DO did not restart.
Try making Opus open with a different directory? Maybe something in the default directory is causing a crash (see the FAQ on crashing with certain directories if so).
By the way, crashing FileMon isn't unusual. It often crashes when a huge number of events happen at once and it can't keep up. The Windows file change notification system is a hard beast to master.
I've seen that happen in two situations:
[ul][li]A network drive is mapped to a computer that is no longer switched on. This causes Windows/Explorer to go crazy and lockup for minutes at a time. Removing the network drive mapping clears it up.[/li]
[li]Some program is blocking Explorer's DDE event queue but not responding to DDE messages in a timely way. (Only one DDE message can be pending on the whole system at any time. Great design, isn't it?) This one is really hard to track down.[/li][/ul]
I will try opening with a different directory.
It was Regmon that crashed.
No network drives at my PC (actually, relevant networking components are completely uninstalled).
I can't remember if I've seen that happen, but maybe it has the same bug as FileMon. I bet it's overflowing a buffer when there are too many events or something similar.
The whole problems seems to be very erratic. Sometimes it happens DOpus runs (or can be run on another account) after logging in. Then, after exiting it, it is impossible to run again. Sometimes it can be run again just after logging out/back in (completely, not with Switch user).
