Dragging and Dropping Images with Firefox 3.5

I really like dragging and dropping images from Firefox, but the latest version doesn't seem to work properly with Opus. Whenever I drag and drop a pic now it posts a uncompressed bitmap which isn't helpful at all.

I know this is a problem that has been caused by Firefox, but this only happens in Opus, not Explorer. Anyone know what the problem might be and whether there's a way to fix it within Opus? I didn't realise how much of a timesaver this was until I can't do it anymore.

[s]If you get an uncompressed bitmap it's because Firefox either couldn't fully download the file or there were errors decoding the file. Essentially, Firefox avoids writing an incomplete/corrupt JPEG and instead saves a bitmap with as much of the image as it could decode (which often looks like the entire image but isn't always).

If I'm right you'll see the same thing if you right-click the image and save it using Firefox without using drag & drop.[/s]

Edit: Scratch that, I see the same thing with images that have downloaded fully. Weird...

Looks like Firefox 3.5 is doing something stupid (IMO) with drag & drop. Doing a quick search for "firefox drag drop bmp" found threads from other programs linking to this bug:

bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502453

I don't use Firefox, but perhaps FF 3.5.1 fixes this?

Worth a try.

Drag it to you desktop folder in opus and it doesn't create a large bmp. So couln't be firefox doing it imo.

By the way..If like to drag & drop images to save them consider using this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6912
You only have to drag em slightly outside the image frame to save the image.

Is not an equivalent to dragNdrop to to a filemanager but is slightly better than saving images from the context menu every time.

It works with Desktop because Explorer handles the Desktop in Opus. (Same with all virtual folders.)

It's definitely a problem in Firefox. Jon debugged it and they've done something silly with the data formats they are offering in their drop handler. Also causes problems with Total Commander and MP3Tag (and maybe other tools) for the same reason.

It happens in 3.5.1 too. (I forgot it wasn't 3.5.0 anymore.)

If I have the desktop folder open in opus and I go to libraries and drag and drop images directly into my pictures folder, the image is saved correctly.
But I think that's not possible in vista because vista doensn't work with libraries.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's having this problem. Shame it really is with Firefox - it doesn't really raise my hopes that someone's going to fix it anytime soon.

Part of the reason why the Firefox Opus combo worked so well for me was because I have lots of subfolders in my pictures folder, so it's impractical to search for the correct folder each time. Using Opus I could drag pics to several adjacent folders at once using tabs, which was just so much quicker.
