Have a strange issue happening with Directory Opus 13 Beta.
If I have the find window open (CTRL-F) and alt tab, after awhile after pressing the "E" key in other programs (No Key Modifiers, just the "E" key by itself) it switches focus back to Directory Opus. and I can not type the E key (every other key seems fine) unless I press the Windows key on the keyboard and it goes back to normal.
If I close down the find window the problem is fixed.
If I exit Directory Opus the problem is fixed.
Not sure how to reproduce this problem automatically as it seems to happen at random, but wondering if anyone else has this odd problem.
It seems the OS is acting like the Windows key is down sometimes, triggering the Win+E hotkey (or Win+O for some people in other threads, possibly depending the version their config dates back to, as the default key changed some years back).
I don't know how that could happen, unless the OS or drivers are confused about key state (which can happen, but usually has a definite trigger like switching users/desktops while a key is down) or the key is actually down. Neither of which explains why it seems to only be happening now, though.
For anyone seeing this, it might be good to note:
Windows version
Keyboard make / drivers
Anything installed that might be involved (e.g. hotkey tools)
I am able to reproduce the issue now by locking my Windows with WIN+L then spamming the keyboard a bit then logging in and pressing E as the first key I press. ( it also happens even when the find area is not open )
My Windows Version is Latest Stable Windows 11 x64.
Keyboard is a RAMA Based firmware running off a ATMEGA32U4 board.
Windows 11 is fairly fresh, do have a Stream Deck, shut down the software and problem still occurs.
I also tested a USB wireless keyboard and same problem.
Also tested logging in remotely via Teamviewer and pressing E on my remote device also was bringing up Opus.
For now I have just disabled the hotkey for Win+E.
The Win+E hotkey in Customize is obsolete now, and can be deleted.
In Preferences, try setting Win+E to "open File Explorer as normal". Would be interesting to see if File Explorer then starts opening the same way Opus did.
Set it to Open File Explorer As Normal and the default Windows file explorer opened.
Turned back on the Customize / Keys Win+E Hotkey with the Open File Explorer As Normal still on and Opus was still being put to active screen with the E key not working.
We've reproduced the issue now, and have a fix coming in the next beta.
Your observation about locking/unlocking the screen led us to the cause. Many thanks!
That also makes sense, from what we've found. You shouldn't need to recreate the Win+E hotkey, since the hotkey isn't required for Opus to open via Win+E. (I think it being in your config was a leftover from older versions of Opus and Windows, where it was once needed.)
Another bug figured out with an incoming fix, great work Leo.
I got another possible issue with the beta, but its pretty rare that it happens, trying to get more information about it before giving details.
Is it possible to have both the Beta and the Stable version working at the same time to see if it happens on the Stable ( I can install it and go back to it for awhile to do some testing if not )
If USB Export is enabled, you could export 12 to a USB stick and run it from there. You have to be careful to close one version before launching another, or it'll just tell the existing instance to open a new window.
Otherwise, two different versions can't be used on the same machine (outside of using a virtual machine).
If you do reinstall 12, I recommend backing up your 13 config and then uninstalling 13, so Opus 12 will run with a fresh/default config. We aim to make newer versions understand configs from older versions, but going the other way around can confuse the older version.
