I sometimes synch up massive directories (My Music, for instance, or Wallpapers) which can involve hours of copying. Meanwhile, I'd like to continue using my computer for word processing or other tasks. BUT ... Synchronize keeps popping up with a message window "reading contents of subfolders. Please wait ..." that steals my cursor, distracting me from the work I'm trying to do. It's not as if I need to know that information or do anything about it. Is there any way to suppress this useless and uninteresting message, or keep it in the background so it doesn't steal my cursor?
Much as DOpus works hard to add things like synchronisation, if there isn't a way around you particular issue, I suggest using software that sets out to achieve this function as its raison d'etre rather than an add on to a file manager.
SynchBack is my choice. It even comes with a free version.
Given some brain power more than mine, you might even be able to get it to work seemlessly with DOpus.
I confess that I use it mostly for my daily backup regimes, but it is also good at other tasks. Maybe your own backup software, I assume you have some, could step in.
PS Were you OrsonCart, it would raise a chortle or two in blighty.
Once you start the copy going you can close the lister that launched the sync, or navigate it to a different place, or close the Synchronize panel (or turn off flat-view). Doing any of those things should avoid the problem.
Just a guess so it might be wrong: If the lister is still showing the source & dest folders in Flat View mode and a lot of changes are being made then it will try to react to each change individually but if it cannot keep up with them (there's a limit to the number of changes that will queue up) then it may have to re-read some of the subdirectories to update the display.
In other words, the problem isn't the sync tool itself, it's because there's a lister showing a folder in Flat View and there are lots of changes being made to that folder.
Changing the folder, turning off Flat View (either explicitly or by closing the Synchronize panel), or closing the window entirely will mean the messages won't be triggered.
The copy will continue and doesn't need the original window/folder to stay there.
BTW, when this causes the problem are you doing things in the original window (e.g. in another folder tab) that launched the sync, or are you using an unrelated Opus window? If the "reading contents of subfolders" dialog can take the focus across windows then that's worth further investigation and fixing, but if it's only taking focus from the window it's tied to then that seems okay to me.
Can you delay entirely writing off functionality in Opus and telling people to use something completely different, when they only have one particular problem with it, until said problem has been looked into by someone?
When/if it becomes become clear that the problem cannot be solved then, by all means, suggest alternatives, but doing it before anyone else has had a chance to try to help, and without spending any time yourself considering the particular problem and whether or not it is solvable, is annoying.
Given the question below I would say the second answer is a lot more helpful than the first answer:
Q: When I use my bicycle the wheels squeak and it's really annoying. Any suggestions?
A1: I haven't thought about your problem at all but you should get a motorcycle instead because they're better than bicycles.
A2: Put a little oil on the wheels.

Apologies, especially to OrsonCard. I thought I had been careful enough in my wording to avoid upsetting anyone. Clearly not.
I am used to the discussion that goes on in other computer forums, where there is a lot of chewing around of issues in this way.
Even if there is a solution in DOpus, other people might find it useful to consider alternatives, if they look like something they could make life easier in other ways.
The person who asked the question can simply ignore my comment.
Sorry. I will go back to sleep again.
The terms and conditions which you agreed to when joining the forums are quite clear on this:
"Unacceptable Behaviour: These forums are NOT for discussion of other
companies' products not directly related to the usage of Opus"
A certain amount of leeway is granted (at the admins discretion), especially in the coffeeshop forum. Leo has not asked anything unreasonable but you seem to have missed the point of his post entirely.
