Encrypting or using a password on a pdf file of a folder

I have a group of PDF files from outside sources which increases monthly. I want to keep others from being able to open those files, and read them.

Is there any way in Opus 12 to do this using a feature in Opus 12? I am running Windows 7 Pro.

I searched the program, and the manual, but could not discover anything to encrypt or add a PW to any files.

I am willing to

  1. add a password to the file
  2. ZIP the files together, and use either a PW or encryption to block access.
  3. IF #2 is possible, I could simply add the new files each month to the ZIP file
  4. If I cannot add a PW, can I encrypt the folder.
5, Does windows 7 offer anything here, if Opus 12 cannot solve my problem

I checked the program, and the manual, but was unable to find any solution to my needs.

I did find some programs on line that are available to add a PW to a PDF file. Most of these however say "Free" but that is usually only for a short trial period.

And, there appear to be some programs which can add a PW to a PDF file, by doing this online. But my files are very private, and I would not consider that.

Thanks for any possible solutions,

Opus can create encrypted zip files.

Select what you want to compress, then click the Archive Files button on the default toolbar (command is Copy ADDTOARCHIVE HERE if you're using custom toolbars), and a dialog will appear where you can specify a password and encryption type (one of the AES options is recommended).

However, note that when you view a PDF file within a zip file, it has to be extracted to the temp directory. It will usually then be deleted from the temp directory, but undelete tools would be able to recover it.

If you want things to be a bit more secure, you could use disk encryption. Bit Locker is built in to some editions of Windows and the most straightforward to use if your edition of windows has it. Third party options include VeraCrypt (free, a fork of True Crypt) and BestCrypt (commercial). All of them will create a partition which can be mounted and unmounted with a password, and while it is mounted it can be used by Opus and all other software the same as any local disk.
