Error backing up

Im about to install a new ssd drive for my programmes and operating system and want to backup my latest Dopus config before re-installing on the new drive. However Im getting halfway through the backup and get the following error:

Error Code 3 - the system cannot find the path specified (5)

I tried following the faq instructions but am unable to locate /dopusdata, although I have found /dopusglobaldata, which contains globaldata.omd. I have been backing up fairly regularly before with no problems. Is it the missing dopusdata file that is a problem.

If I re-install the programme to get it back I assume I will lose my current configuration (my interface is highly customized and don’t fancy going through it all again - even the latest backup from last November has a host of changes since) or are they stored in the globaldata file.

Thanks
alad

The error may be caused by non-ASCII characters in the names of one of the files being backed-up. e.g. A toolbar, file collection or rename preset might have a non-ASCII character in its name.

(A fix for that should be in the next major update.)

For now, if you can't find & rename the item that's causing the problem, doing a manual backup & later restore of the config is the way to go. The config is just files (as you probably know already).

If you still have Opus installed, just type /dopusdata into the location field and it will take you to the right folder. You shouldn't need to search for the paths; Opus will locate them for you.

If Opus isn't installed (e.g. you're looking at the old HDD from the previous Windows install) then do a search for userdata.omd or prefs.oxc to locate the folders. (Prefs.oxc is in a sub-dir of what you would want to backup; you want the parent directories as well.)

Re-installing Opus over the top of itself won't erase your configuration.

However, uninstalling Opus will erase the configuration. If you've uninstalled Opus already then the config may have been deleted. (If that's the case and you have Windows 7 (or Vista Pro/Ultimate), try the Previous Versions feature of the OS to see if there's a recent snapshot of the directory.)

Leo, thanks for the help. Ive managed to locate the files you mentioned and manually copied them to a backup, which will have to suffice for now. Im not sure what characters I have written that could have caused this so hopefully the update will help when it comes. Thanks again. Alan
