I am a fan of colored file types, so thank you for letting me/us know! o)
Associated icons and they appearance, they come and go and change constantly. Icons don't really help much to differentiate file types and groups of files. Files being colored resolves this and directories load noticeably faster as well! o)
If you stick to the same colouring in every application or OS, it really gives a coherent experience, whether you are in DO, Everything or even a linux terminal. No need for icons at all, we also had no icons in the file display on the amiga, it was not a problem! o)
Without colouring, like in the regular Windows Explorer, it just looks really odd and the icons.. Kind of useless, it all blends together into some, I don't know how to call it, maybe "file and folder wishy washy".. o)
Is it possible to display the search results in Directory Opus issued by Everything v1.5a with color filters as well?
In Everything v1.5a interface, using Color filters, you can concretely have a foreground color which is different for files coming from C:\Windows and C:\Program Files folders:
@tbone I just came across this thread and I am really intrigued with your file types having different color schemes. This is something I would find absurdly useful. I also noticed you have coloring applied to different values in the columns data i.e. the dates and whatnot. How do you go about coloring the different file types and column data into different colored groups like you are showing in your screenshots?
Yes, I have it setup in a similar way as xavierarmand is showing. I use multiple file extensions in a single filter though, it makes things more easy to adjust. For some reason I use a wild mix of Wildcard Labels, Filter Labels (and mixing regular expression and wildcards here as well). I guess this is due to some experiments with these labels in the past, but things work fine, so I don't bother to clean this up for now.. o)
You can also use the File Type groups of DO to colour specific file types, using these groups avoids collecting single file extensions into filter expressions, but it might have some downsides as well (you might need to create new groups if, you can't see directly what file extensions are affected in the Label editor etc.. ). Not recommending anything here, just telling what comes to my mind when looking at this.
You are a man of complex tastes. I am going to be going over this for some time now, just one more way to hyper-specialize good ol' DOpus to my ever expanding needs.
Thank you guys for your help and pointiong this out!
