I'm getting a weird but repeatable error on dopus 10.0.0.3.4160 in Windows 7 64-bit.
I can cause the crash in a couple ways:
If Dopus is not already running, trying to open it from the pinned taskbar icon's Jump List will cause explorer.exe to crash ("Windows Explorer has stopped working"). If a lister is already open, however, the jump list works as expected (new listers at the chosen location open).
If Dopus is running, I can right-click on files in a normal explorer window (not a Dopus lister) and view the context-menu, as expected. However, if Dopus is all closed down (no open listers), then a right-click on a file will cause explorer.exe to crash.
This is repeatable between reboots, and each problem resolves when the condition is reversed, i.e. if I open a Dopus lister, then I can right-click files in a normal explorer window just fine.
I actually just discovered another related, repeatable crash situation. If a Dopus lister is open, I can drag and drop files from one normal explorer window to another just fine. If, however, Dopus is not opened, then it causes explorer to crash.
This is the information I can find in Event Viewer:

Use ShellExView to disable shell extensions with Type = Context Menu except the Opus ones; after doing that, do you still get a crash when right-clicking files in Explorer?
I'm guessing the problem is a conflict between Opus and some other shell extension, and the crash will go away with the others disabled. If so, enable them again in batches until you can work out which one(s) trigger the conflict. If you can find one that does we can install it ourselves and investigate.
I tried disabling all non-microsoft extensions using ShellExView. I chose not to mess with the MS ones as the program said this could cause instability or even prevent the computer from booting. This didn't fix the problem.
After some googling, I started removing entries from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers. Eventually I discovered it was "OpusZip" that was causing the problem. Even when I removed every entry from this section except for "OpusZip" explorer would still crash upon a right click. And conversely, removing just this entry fixes the crashing, even after restoring all the disabled extensions in ShellExView.
Ok, think I just got it: right-click in explorer will crash (with Opus closed) when there is nothing selected in "Zip & Other Archives / Archive and VFS Plugins". Note I put "OpusZip" back in the registry for this test. If not a single file format is checked, I'll get the crash. None of the settings in "Archive Context Menu" prevents this crash, such as disabling the archive context menu or unchecking "display context menus in Explorer as well as Opus."
If I check even a single format -- even one I've never heard of or used like "WIM" -- explorer won't crash, and I can use the jump lists to start Opus. For now, that's what I'll do...uncheck "Enable Archive context menu" (as I don't use Opus to handle them) but leave one obscure format checked.
I see this is an older message but I have had the very same fault problem that "boost" had with explore.exe crashes. Deleting the OpusZip entry in the following key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers" does solve the problem, but I don't know if that will cause another problem later. I see that Jon mentioned a fix to come later, has that been done yet?
Thanks,
The fix Jon mentioned back in May would have come out some time ago.
Which version of Opus are you using?
Which version of Windows are you using?
What other zip/archive software do you have installed (particularly ones which also add context-menu items)?
What steps do we need to follow to reproduce the crash you are seeing?
Thanks Leo for your reply. My version Opusis 10.0.0.0.4137.x86, Windows 7 x32, and I have Winzip installed but have disabled the zip and all other plugins in Opus settings. I already deleted the contents of the OpusZip entry in the following key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers" but when I reboot and start up in the morning, the same problem happens: If I right click on a desktop item (icon) explorer immediately crashes indicating dopuslib.dll as the fault (I think that's the wording). It appears that the Opus entry in the registry has been reentered.
I will try the newest version to see if that has fixed this problem,
Update to the latest version before trying anything else, otherwise you are wasting your own time and everyone else's. That should be the first thing you try, especially when you have such an old version, before bumping an old thread here in the forum.
The updates are free if you already have 10.0.0.0 so there is no reason not to.
It isn't surprising that you don't have the fix Jon mentioned; the version you are running is from before Jon's post!
