Faster WPD viewing

I don't know if this is common knowledge here. I just stumbled onto how to speed up WPD (Word Perfect document) viewing with Dopus when it's using Quick View Plus integration.

I went to Preferences, Plugins, ActiveX etc, Configure. I unchecked Quick View Plus, I unchecked all WordPerfect viewers. I exited that plugin

What remained is MultiView, and when I push its configure button I see that it is pointing at C:\Program Files\Quick View Plus\Program. So I imagine multiple plugins were fighting to load WPD files and slowing things down.

If anyone knows of a pitfall in doing it this way, please let me know.

Me again. I just did some searching and and it says to NOT use Multiview if I have something else. So I turned it off, and turned the Quick View Plus viewer back on. The speed is still there.

What i read says MultiView utilizes Oracle's' Outside In technology. But so does Quick View Plus. But anyway, the viewing is no longer painfully slow.

I'm not sure what happened there. Unless the WPD file extension was moved from one preview handler to another, you should now be back to where you started.

For a given file type, it doesn't matter if MultiView is enabled or not if another viewer successfully loads the file first. MultiView is only asked to load a file if everything before it failed.

(This is assuming MultiView is under the ActiveX plugin in the list. They are tried in order.)

Based on what you said I did more testing. The problem is not Multiview. It is two preview handlers in the Active X, etc. plugin The handlers are WordPerfect Office X9 (32 bit) and WordPerfect X9 Document (32 bit). If I shut these off and leave QVP and Multiview active, then things go a lot faster. I did not test them with QVP and Multiview disabled because I saw no advantage in giving up QVP and Multiview.

The WPD file extension can only be assigned to one of the preview handlers. Are you moving the extension as well as disabling things?

If one of them was assigned the extension and took a while to fail, and then things fell back on MultiView, then that might explain things.

I wasn't moving them. I only turned things off. But now they are completely gone. I uninstalled the entire WP X9 Suite, and those two handlers disappeared. So now I can't fiddle with them to test further.

I removed them because I was also having trouble with File Locator Pro. It was giving me a blank preview that sometimes says "loading" forever. So maybe that's because of the WP X9 handlers. When I removed the suite the blank preview went away, but now I get a WP icon. So next I'm going to remove File Locator Pro and reinstall it. See if it finds QVP. And I realize File Locator Pro is not your software, but what the heck, this seems to confirm that the WP X9 handlers were not good.
