File copy/move stalls?

When I try to copy or move a file, directory opus keeps stalling and hangs the computer?

need some more information... how many files are you trying to move/copy.. Are you on a network drive?

Thank you for the reply. I am trying to copy a couple files larger than 400mb to a folder located on a removable drive? It reaches 40-60% rather quickly, then just appears to stall, and the computer is unresponsive. Is there a way to reset Dopus to the defaults?

I get a slow down when copying to a removable drive when it is almost full... could this be the problem...?

Unfortunately, no. There is over 150 gb free...

Long shot but have you tried defragging the removable drive...?

No, not recently, but I'll give it a shot right now.

Could be worth running the Error Checking tool as well in case the drive errors.

try moving the files from your desktop to the drive. a cheap way around it is if you put the files in a ZIP files, move the zip to the removeable drive, then extract the zip in the drive, then delete the zip

The files are located on the desktop? I will try the zip-file workaround after XP checks the volume for errors, and after defragging.

Try changing the Copy Buffer size under Settings -> Preferences -> File Operations -> Copying Files. Try both larger and smaller values to see if they help. Some devices, USB ones in particular, seem very sensitive to the buffer size and that could be the difference between the different programs.

Make sure you have the latest motherboard / USB drivers as well, in case newer ones fix the issue.

I increased the buffer size, and the files seem to be copying over fine now, but quite a bit slower? Does increasing the buffer size decrease the transfer speed?

It usually increases it but some USB devices are weird when it comes to buffer sizes. Decreasing it from the default may also speed things up.
