File display close button only closes active tab

Regarding Settings -> Preferences -> Folder Tabs -> Options -> File display close button only closes active tab , this description would make me think that if the option is not checked, clicking the close button would close all tabs. What actually happens when the option is not checked is that the close button disappears. This may be what is intended to happen but it doesn't really match the wording.

If you switch to a dual display it will come back again. That is, the close button is only shown if it's needed:

  • In a single display Lister, it's only needed if it will close the active tab
  • In a dual display Lister, it's always needed, and can close either the file display or the active tab depending on that option

OK, I guess that makes sense. I think I'd prefer to see the button all the time, but it's not a big deal.

What would you have the button do if there's only one tab and only one file display?

I'd probably have it close the entire lister which sort of seems to me consistent with closing the entire second file display, but I think it's a very minor matter of personal preference.
