File Renaming blocked by Obj viewer

Hello

I have an issue of not being able to rename any given file of any type in any folder. I will attach the error msg.

Thanks!

Is that currently open in the viewer pane? (If so, which viewer does it say is handling it, in the pane's title after the filename?)

Or is it staying locked by that process even after the viewer is closed?

I tested this and yes, it's with the viewer pane showing / loading that it's locked. Once the pane is closed the ability to rename works. Is this by design or...?

What’s the name of the viewer? Is it the Microsoft 3D Object viewer?

Viewers aren’t supposed to lock files, but some of them do, even ones made by Microsoft who made the rules about them not locking files.

We have a workaround for that which lets you configure Opus to create a temporary copy of the file and pass that to the viewer instead, but it first requires identifying which viewer is involved. It also only works for self-contained files, where everything is in a single file.

I use a script to automatically reload the viewer pane when renaming, which avoids the file being locked.

Indeed it is MS 3D OV. Yeah, the files are self-contained.

In Opus, go to Preferences / Viewer / Plugins and then configure the MetaPlugin, select 3D Viewer at the top and turn on Open Temporary Copies and click OK, it should work around the problem.

I enabled the Temp Copies; I will let you know how it goes.
