i just started using File Collections
i took a few .xls files from various locations and dragged them into a collection folder
in the collection folder i double clicked them and started working on them, later when i closed Excel some of the files disappeared from the collection
they were still ok and in their original folders, any ideas why they disappear?
this has happened a couple of times already
it seems like editing saving or closing them is doing it
and what is the practical difference between a collection and making a folder and dragging shortcuts to the files to that folder ?
thanks

When Excel saves a document it does a "safe save":
[ul][li]Writes the new version to a random filename.
[/li]
[li]Renames the old version.
[/li]
[li]Renames the new version to use the original name.
[/li]
[li]Deletes the old version.[/li][/ul]
(Or it might rename the old version as the first step, then write the new version with the original name, then delete the old version.)
So, in reality, the original XLS file has been deleted. There's a new file with the same name and very similar contents but it is not technically the original file.
Newer versions of Opus attempt to detect this sequence and treat the new file as the old file but it may not always work.
That depends what you're doing to do with the file. Collections and shortcuts are not the same but if you just want a bunch of things you can double-click on then shortcuts are just as good as collections.
There's a setting in Miscellaneous / Advanced that controls how long Opus will wait for the file to be "recreated" before removing it from a collection.
sounds logical but at 5 seconds i would think the small file would easily have been swapped out within that time
OTOH 5000uS is probably not feasible
will try 10000
