Files in Recycle.bin not displayed

When running a secure delete tool (secure delete recycle.bin), 2 files could not be deleted.
The tool had no access to them, they were locked. They must be deleted manually (unlock/delete).

However, they were not visible in the Recycle.bin

Windows 7 explorer options view:
Hide extensions for known file types - untagged
Hide protected operating system files - untagged

In Opus the files were not displayed either (extension .bca)
Only, when doing an Opus filesearch they were displayed in the "File Collections\Find Results".

What do I have to change in Opus to make these files visible in a normal way?

Thanks!

You mention Explorer's settings for hiding hidden/system files, but what were the similar settings in Opus?

Does the status bar indicate files are hidden? Hover over the hidden count and a tooltip will name some of the hidden items.

You shouldn't normally be messing around in the raw recycle bin folders at all as they are managed by Windows and you can break the ability to use the recycle bin if Windows thinks the folder or its contents are in an invalid state. There's a reason Windows permissions those folders to stop you going inside them.

You mean in Preferences->Global Filters?
Nothing is tagged there.

THe only thing I do is securely delete files (sec.delete recycle bin).
Now, once a day it does the job when starting the pc, tool runs once, daily, at startup.

This time, however, it showed a pop-up that it could not delete the 2 files: they were locked, rightfully so.
It is locked by another tool that starts up by default.
Within that tool, I need to temporarily disable the control then I can delete the files and enable control again.

Neither WIndows Explorer or Opus displayed the files - Opus search did display them.

It is no big deal, but made me curious as to why Opus Search displayed the files and Opus 'explorer view' didn't.
My reason for asking.

As I already deleted the files, I cannot reply to your questions, but will remember them should it happen again.

The difference is due to real vs virtual folders. If you double-click the folder with your SID (long account number, although it will just be called "Recycle Bin" in some views, if localized folder names are enabled) under $Recycle.Bin then you'll normally be shown the Recycle Bin virtual folder, not the real contents of that folder.

OTOH, the Find tool ignores virtual folders (on the whole) and just finds what is really there.

You can set Preferences / Folders / Virtual Folders / Treat all virtual folders as real to see the real folder contents, but I don't recommend digging around in there if you want the recycle bin to keep working.

Many thanks for the explanation Leo!
