Using 9.1.0.3.2975.x86
If a filter is in File mode then it only affects files.
See here for two ways to hide all folders:

9.1.0.3 is a rather old version now, by the way.
Thanks for speedy response.
Set HIDEFILTERFOLDERS="*" works to show only folders.
I searched, there doesn't seem to be a command that only shows files.
Above solves the problem, but I'm still confused about the filter box setting. The choice seems clear enough, ie folders only, but it doesn't affect what is shown.
The above command when used in a button will toggle the hiding of folders. Click it once it hides folders, click it again and it shows them.
To toggle the hiding of files, use this in a button:
Set HIDEFILTERFILENAME=*
