My disk backup software (Macrium) is starting to fail because it's finding files with CRC errors. It won't tell me which files though. Can I use DOpus to find the files so I can delete them?
EDIT: I should mention that chkdsk doesn't seem to find them. I want to avoid chkdsk /f, since I want to restore the files from backup if possible before /f'ing them.
Not something that Opus does. A quick search on the Macrium forum found a post saying details may be in the system event log.
If it's finding CRC errors that other things don't, but not telling you where they are, I'd ask them to provide more details about what exactly the errors are ("CRC error" on its own could mean a lot of different things) and what to do.
It's also possible that if it's a type of CRC error which Windows itself detects then it has already remapped the parts of the drive that had problems, so further chkdsk won't find any problems (or at least not the same problems). Macrium itself may not either, unless it's comparing some other type of CRC to something it has stored in an older backup, or similar.
The filesystem doesn't do any CRC checking itself, so these errors are probably coming from your hard drive itself. It might be a good idea to try some diagnostic software or think about replacing the drive.
