I have connected my mobile phone via USB to get to the Android directory and file system. All this works fine. I can move about the directories, see files and copy and paste.
However, if I try to find files like *.jpg or *.mp4 it will not work. I have tried the Search box top right and Tools, Find Files. It will not search and find files.
I'm surprised Tools > Find Files isn't working. Can you show a screenshot of have you have the Find panel set up?
More generally, I usually recommend using FTP over Wifi to access phones rather than USB (MTP and transferring files with Android and iOS phones, Cameras), at least if your Wifi speeds are good. It's a lot more reliable, since the USB method uses MTP which is very poorly designed and implemented by most phones and OS (e.g. can't access two files in parallel).
The phone is pretty old and it is a Sony Xperia Z3. However, this should not matter. When plugging in the USB cable, a box comes up to choose MTP and it works.
I am trying to find all dot JPG files in Internal Storage. This is displayed in Opus in the left of the screen :
This is the Find Files setup on the left::
This is the Find Files setup on the right:
Nothing can be found, but there are many JPG photos in the folder trees.
Thank you for your information on this. You are correct. USB via MTP is very unreliable and I will never use it again.
I tried this also with the Windows 10 File Explorer and another file manager. They both could not find about 80% of the JPG files via the MTP and USB connection. I even tried to find MP4 videos on the mobile's SD card and it only found one. But in fact, there are many scattered in different directories in there.
Thanks for the MTP and transferring files with Android link using FTP and Wi-Fi. I'll try that out.
