Finding a text string in a collection of PDF files

Win 11, DO 13.7 - I have a folder containing 29 PDF files, some of which include a specific text string. I've tried all the variations I can on Advanced Search, but I either get 0 hits or 29 hits - not the 16 or so which would be correct. Can someone confirm please whether I should do more than specify the filename as *.PDF and put my search string in the 'text' field? TIA.

No, that sounds right.

Are proper IFilters installed on your system?

Thanks for a quick reply. Didn't even know that IFilters existed, or how to check for them! More details please?

They usually come with PDF readers from Adobe, Sumatra, Foxit, etc.

SearchFilterView lets you check your system's setup.

I have both Adobe and Sumatra installed, but I can't ID any filters that seem to be related to those apps. The categories I have are:
Content Index Utility DLL
HTML filter
Internet Browser
Microsoft Filter for Open Document Format
Microsoft Msg IFilter
Microsoft Office Open XML Format Filter
Microsoft OneNote Filter
Microsoft WinRT Storage API
MIME Filter
OFFICE Filter
PDF WinRT APIs
RTF Filter
Windows Shell Common Dll
WordPad Search Filters
XML Filter
I'll do my own research too, but if you have any more suggestions on how to get more out of my PDF searches please let me know!

Same here. Are they able to find the strings with their built-in search?

I'd be happy to try on my system if you can share a file and string.

Thanks - I'll check. Difficult to share files as these are my bank statements... but that does remind me that these are bank-created PDFs. I wonder if the PDF version or a security setting is messing with my searches? I shall play further and let you know!
